Louis Armstrong: “Mack the Knife”

Mack the Knife” was composed by Kurt Weill with lyrics by Bertolt Brecht for The Threepenny Opera. The show premiered in Berlin in 1928 and the song became a standard for jazz and pop musicians.

"Mack the Knife" was introduced to the U.S. hit parade by Louis Armstrong in 1954. The song was recorded by many other musicians, probably most famously by Bobby Darin in 1959.

(Watch and listen to Armstrong perform “Back Home Again in Indiana” here and “Christmastime in Harlem” here.)
