This is Joe Henderson on the tenor saxophone, Bheki Mseleku playing the piano, George Mraz on bass, and Al Foster on the drums performing “Take the A Train.” The song is a jazz standard written by Billy Strayhorn. It was the signature piece for the Duke Ellington Orchestra. The title refers to the A subway service that runs through New York City, going at that time from eastern Brooklyn up into Harlem and northern Manhattan.
Joe Henderson (1937 – 2001) was a jazz tenor saxophonist. He performed with Horace Silver, Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, and Miles Davis among others.
