It took into account the fear inherent of "the other" and exploited it to its own ends. Also, it attempted to simplify matters considerably in making a broad over-generalization for an extremely complex picture. People like simple solutions and cut-and-dry answers, but race and how we define it as such is not one of these.<BR/><BR/>Overcompensation is responsible for this sort of tokenism one sees even in multicultural settings. It's an attempt to do SOMETHING substantial but in the process it overshoots its boundaries. Finding commonality between all of us IN SPITE of our superficial differences is the best way to go about it and Obama, in that regard, has done so by not over-thinking how he defines himself as a black man or as a human being.Comrade Kevinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11393718048145784837noreply@blogger.com
